Abstract

1,271,356. Subaqueous drilling. LOCKHEED AIRCRAFT CORP. 4 Feb., 1970 [10 Feb., 1969], No. 5442/70. Heading E1F. A cluster of sub-aqueous wells 21 are closely positioned and interconnected by a template 12 so that a pipe 13, extending between the template 12 and a floating platform causes the wells to serve as anchors for the platform. Initially a caisson lowered down the pipe 13 is cemented in a bore in the sea floor. The template connected to the caisson has a plurality of pipes 21 arranged in a circle around the pipe 13 and through which the wells are drilled. The wells may be slant drilled. After the wells have been capped an atmospheric capsule is lowered down the pipe 13, followed by a personnel transporter carrying equipment to evacuate the water from the capsule. Fresh air can be supplied to the capsule through the pipe 13. The capsule includes an access hatch in alignment with each well for entry of personnel to complete the wells. The wells may have separate or shared flowlines 33 extending upwards through the pipe 13. The platform may have four pipes 13 each extending to a cluster of wells.
