Abstract

1,008,399. Boring earth; wells; floating offshore structure. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. June 20, 1962 [June 22, 1961], No. 47425/64. Divided out of 1,008,398. Headings E1F and E1H. Offshore structure for carrying out operations at an underwater well comprises a main operating deck 21 and an auxiliary operating deck 23 below the deck 21, each of the decks supporting pipe-engaging means 20, 22 in vertical alignment with each other. The deck 21 supports the rotary table 20 and pipe elevators 19 supported by a derrick 16 both table and elevators engaging drill pipe 24. The means 22 comprises a slip and spider assembly for supporting casing 25. The structure shown is a barge moored by lines 14, 15 and having a central well 26. In modifications the well may be replaced by a side slot, and the barge may be replaced by a fixed platform or by a temporarily fixed but normally floatable platform.
