A yarn traversing mechanism Fig. 3 of the kind employing a hollow cylindrical drum 22 rotating on a non-rotating shaft 46 and having an endless slot in which a cam follower 27 carrying a yarn guide 28 is constrained to slide is characterized in that the yarn guide 28 has a first portion 31 that co-operates with at least one stationary guide surface 25, 26 inside the drum 22 and a second portion 29 that co-operates with at least one stationary guide surface 23, 24 outside the drum 22. Fig. 13 shows an embodiment in which the stationary guide surface 23 is absent. Fig. 15 shows an embodiment in which the stationary guide surface 25 is absent. The guide surfaces 25, 26 are secured to the stationary shaft about which the drum 22 rotates.
