Abstract
1,266,450. Measuring twist in yarns. G. A. CARRUTHERS. 11 May, 1970 [9 May, 1969], No. 23642/69. Heading D1F. An instrument for measuring the degree of twist being imparted to a continuous travelling yarn 10 by an apparatus e.g. a falsetwist spindle 12, causing the yarn to move both longitudinally and rotationally, comprises a sensing member 14 pivoted for free movement about an axis normal to, but spaced from, the yarn path, which member 14 has a part 14a engaging the yarn surface whereby pivoting of the member 14 to assume an angular disposition indicates the amount of twist being imparted. The amount of twist may be indicated on a scale 18. In a preferred embodiment, two photoelectric cells 20 are positioned in the angular path of the member 14 so that if the member 14 moves outside these cells, signals are sent to the motor controlling the speed of the twisting apparatus whereby the twist imparted to the yarn is maintained within specified limits.
