Abstract
1,265,759. Gas burner. D. V. GREAVES. 6 July, 1970 [12 June, 1969], No. 29869/69. Heading F4T. A burner comprises a plurality of elements 1 each formed of a sheet of metal bent to a U- shape with one end sealed and the other end communicating with a manifold 2 through a port 3 through which neat gas is delivered, the free edges being arranged to restrict gas flow by pressing them together and spot welding at 4 to form slits 5. Air passes through the spaces between the elements and mixes with the gas issuing from the slits 5. The edges of the element may alternatively be shaped by cutting pairs of slits and bending the portions between them towards the opposite wall (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown) or by providing a spacer between the walls (Fig. 4, not shown). The elements need not be straight, and may be spiral or any other desired shape. Air may be supplied by induced or forced flow. The passage of gas may be restricted by packing the space between the walls of each element with wire gauze.
