[Also in Division A4] A portable toilet comprises a box 10, 12 having an upper opening, a length of flexible plastics tubing 50 forming a disposable waste container, said tubing hanging down from a tubing reservoir in a receiver 22, 28 below said opening, and sealing means for forming vertically spaced temporary seals in the tubing 50, the sealing means being mounted below the tubing receiver which is mounted for reciprocation relative to the sealing means and the box. The reciprocation draws additional tubing from the reservoir and forms a tubing seal above a first seal formed during or immediately preceding reciprocation, and opens said first seal. The sealing means comprises two pairs of rollers 30, 31; 37, 39 mounted at the ends of two pairs of arms 32; 38 respectively, having pivots 34, 40, respectively, sliding in inclined slots 36, 41 respectively in two vertical walls 45 within the box. Pivots 34, 40 are urged together by helical springs 43, 42 respectively. The tubing receiver comprises anannular space between outer and inner tubular members 28, 22, respectively, member 22 having a lower frusto-conical extension 23. In Fig. 2 the receiver is in its lowest position relative to the sealing means, waste being retained in a lower part 51 of the tubing which is sealed between rollers 31, 37. Waste is deposited into the section of tubing within members 22, 23 which are then moved upwards relative to the sealing means, rollers 30, 39 moving along the outer surface of member 23 until they snap together forming an upper seal, Fig. 5 (not shown). The upward movement draws a further length of tubing from the receiver. Downward relative movement of the receiver engages rollers 30, 39 in notches 58 in member 23 and causes rollers 31, 37 to part, Fig. 6 (not shown) and to move along the outer surface of member 23. The box comprises an upper section 10 separably secured by catches 16 to a lower section 12 which contains the tubing part 51. Part 10 may telescope into part 12. The members 22, 23, a top wall 29, toilet seat 14 and a hinged cover 15 may be moved relative to the rest of the apparatus by handles 55, slide 70 on wall 29 sliding in channel members (71), Fig. 4 (not shown), of box part 10. The tubing may be supplied in a cartridge (60), Fig. 7 (not shown) accordion-pleated over a short cardboard tube (61) or within an annular space between inner and outer tubes which are joined at their lower ends.
