Abstract
1,261,758. Spray steelmaking apparatus. VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN-UND STAHLWERKE AG. April 2, 1969 [May 9, 1968], No.17372/69. Heading C7D. Crude iron falls freely into a downwardly inclined hollow member of circular cross-section, there being mounted at the upper end of the body and co-axial with it a blast nozzle for introducing primary spray gas under pressure while secondary gas is introduced round the nozzle. The bore of the body may have a constriction in the area of the nozzle to induce a Venturi effect, while the nozzle may be axially adjustable with respect to the metal inlet. As shown in Fig.2 primary nozzle 4 is axially movable on rollers 15, 19 and is mounted on a cross-slide to be interchangeable. Secondary gas and additives are introduced through conduit 12.
