Abstract

1,258,348. Razor blades. CORNING GLASS WORKS. 15 Oct., 1969, No. 50632/69. Heading B4B. [Also in Division C1] A razor blade 12 made from metal, toughened glass or glass-ceramic comprises a body portion formed with a shank portion 20 provided with a pair of facets 14 which converge to form a cutting edge 16, wherein the included angle "a " between the facets is between 10 and 35 degrees, the maximum length between the cutting edge and the shank of at least one facet is 0À002 inch and that a relief area is formed on the shank portion by at least one surface 18 which is parallel to the transverse cross-sectional axis of the razor blade. The distance " C " in the Figure is not less than 0À005 inch. In a second embodiment (Fig. 2) one facet (24) extends from the cutting edge (16<SP>1</SP>) to the body portion (12<SP>1</SP>) without the relief surface 18<SP>1</SP>.
