Abstract
1,258,304. Toe pieces for ski bindings. H. MARKER. 18 March, 1969 [19 March, 1968], No. 14212/69. Heading A6D. In a toe-piece for a safety ski-binding the toe-holder member 6 is connected to the baseplate 1 by a carrier 4. The base-plate is formed with screw holes 2 for attaching it to the ski and has a dovetail-shaped guide strip 3 which engages in a similarly shaped recess in the carrier 4. The carrier also has a dovetailshaped guide track 5 which engages in a recess in the holder member 6 and is forwardly curved from the centre to the edge. The toeholder 7 is connected by a screw 8 to the toeholder member 6, the vertical slot 9 in the toeholder enabling adjustment for soles of different thicknesses. The carrier 4 contains a pin 10 formed with a conical top 11 which fits into a recess in the toe-holder member 6, the lower end bearing on the top of the base plate. The guide track 3 has two holes 12 (not shown) symmetrically arranged with respect to the central longitudinal axis of the toe-piece into which the lower end of the pin can engage when the carrier has been sufficiently transversely displaced relative to the base plate. A weak spring 13 is fitted around the pin bearing on the conical top and a shoulder of the bore. Another spring holds the carrier 4 in its central position on the base plate and serves to return the carrier to this position when, it has been displaced. If a force is sufficiently large to displace the toe-holder and carrier the pin 10 engages in one of the holes 12 and the carrier is locked to the base plate and the toe-holder will move on along the guide track 5 of the carrier, thus releasing the toe portion of the boot. In a second embodiment the toe-holder member and carrier are pivoted to the base plate by a pivot pin. The locking device comprises a hole in the carrier which carries two balls. In a third embodiment the toe-holder is formed of two parts which are symmetrical about the central longitudinal line.
