Abstract
1,257,540. Balanced flue arrangement; water heaters. TELEDYNE Inc. 31 Dec., 1969 [21 Jan., 1969], No. 63446/69. Headings F4A and F4W. A gas fired appliance, particularly for heating water for a swimming pool, has a combustion chamber 26 within a housing 11, heated by an aerated burner 32, and a bank of horizontal water tubes 34 below an exhaust outlet hood 35. Secondary combustion air enters a space 13 and flows down a chamber 22 at the front of the housing to louvres 31 communicating with the combustion chamber 26. The top of the appliance is protected by C-section walls 14 spaced from the upper end of the housing and a grid 16 mounted within the walls 14 to prevent the entry of debris. V-shaped baffles with their apices outwards are arranged in the air cooling opening 13. Any rain falling on plate 36 defining the top of the air entry passage will fall into the housing from the C-section walls 14, and drain holes are provided in the combustion chamber to dispose of rain entering exhaust hood 35. The refractory walls of the combustion chamber have waterproof caps 30.
