Abstract

1,256,190. Differential switches. HERMANN BERSTORFF MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. 3 March, 1970 [12 March, 1969], No. 10073/70. Heading H1N. [Also in Division H2] In an arrangement for adjusting the spacing of two parallel rolls 1, 2, the two ends of the roll 2 are separately movable on threaded spindles 3, 4 driven by motors 7, 8 through worm gears 5, 6 respectively. Auxiliary shafts 9, 10 also driven by the motors 7, 8 respectively cooperate with a member 11 to detect a difference of total angular displacement between the two motors. The member 11 is splined on to a shaft portion 9a and threaded on to a shaft portion 10a so that a speed difference causes the member 11 to move axially and operate a switch 12 or 13 to switch off both motors. Adjustment may then be made by reversing one of the motors. In an alternative embodiment, a single switch (16, Fig. 2, not shown) is operated by a part (14a) of a split device (14) and having an inclined peripheral surface (14d) which is engaged by a pin (14c) on the other part (14b).
