Abstract
1,253,190. Lubricant compositions. A. G. R. CLARKE. 16 April, 1970, No. 18125/70. Heading C5F. A hydrocarbon lubricating composition having the following properties, viscosities at 210‹ F. and - 40‹ F. :- 400, not more than 13,000 C.S. respectively and flash and pour points of >290‹ and below -50‹ F. respectively comprises 70 to 95 parts by vol. of a disproportionated product derived from mono-n-alkyl benzenes and containing predominantly 5 to 30 parts by vol. mono-n-alkylbenzenes, the alkyl groups of which alkylbenzenes contain from 10 to 15 carbon atoms, and contain less than 4À5 wt. per cent diphenyl alkanes. In the preferred embodiment the lubricant comprises a blend of 13 parts by volume mono-n-alkyl benzenes and about 87% by volume of a disproportionated product derived from mono-n-alkyl benzenes and containing at least 70% by weight di-nalkyl benzene. The n-alkyl benzenes are prepared by catalytic alkylation of benzene by a diboroalkyl derivative and are disproportionated over a Friedel-Crafts catalyst. Preferably AlCl 3 at a preferred temperature of 100‹ C.
