Abstract
1,253,100. Wetting metal surfaces with mercury, electrolytic activation of metal surfaces. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. H. July 9, 1969 [July 12, 1968], No.34574/69. Heading C7B and C7F. To facilitate the wetting of a metal or an alloy surface e.g. steel, with mercury, the surface is treated with nascent hydrogen. The surface may be immediately wetted with mercury or the surface may be protected with an electrolytic gold coating and subsequently wetted with mercury. The nascent hydrogen may be formed electrolytically using sulphuric acid as an electrolyte and a platinum anode with a current density of 150 MA/ cm<SP>2</SP>.
