1,252,568. Expansible fasteners. H. W. KRAUSS, [trading as H. WILLY KRAUSS]. 13 Dec., 1968 [16 Dec., 1967], No. 59497/68. Heading F2H. An expansible fastening device comprising a sleeve 7 mounted on a bolt 1 between two spreading elements 2, 3 is characterized in that the sleeve 7 is provided with a plurality of peripherally spaced, longitudinally extending incisions 8, 9 so that when the device is located in a bore the sleeve can be elastically deformed by the spreading elements 2, 3 to expand and grip the walls of the bore. The incisions are so arranged that peripherally successive incisions start at alternate ends of the sleeve and extend almost the entire length of the sleeve and each incision is spaced closer to one adjacent incision than the other adjacent incision. The sleeve 7 which may be of untempered steel and provided with knurlings on its outer surface may have tapering bore portions 12 at its ends for reception of the conical spreading elements 2, 3.
