Abstract
1,251,748. Converting. MARCONI CO. Ltd. 16 April, 1970 [9 July, 1969], No. 34623/69. Heading H2F. An arrangement for supplying D.C. power to a load 19 from an unregulated D.C. source 1 comprises a switching arrangement 2, the output of which feeds the primary winding of a transformer 4 by way of a series resonance circuit 8, 9 and a parallel resonance circuit 10, 11; the secondary winding of the transformer 4 having multiple taps each tap feeding a load 19 by way of a different rectifier in the block 4 and a low-pass filter circuit 16, 17, 18, the circuits 8, 9 and 10, 11 being arranged to resonate at the switching frequency of the switching arrangement 2. The output of the switching arrangement 2 has a rectangular waveform which is changed to a sinusoidal waveform by the resonant circuits, the Q- values of the two circuits being equal and not more than 3. The series resonance circuit 8, 9 is shunted by a resistor 12 which has a value equal to the equivalent load resistance referred to the primary winding of the transformer 4. The value of the resistor 17 in the filter circuit 16, 17, 18 is chosen to be equal to the equivalent resistance of the load 19. The switching arrangement may comprise semi-conductor devices, thermionic valves or relays.
