Abstract

1,251,329. Shaft seals. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 22 Nov., 1968 [23 Nov., 1967], No. 53357/67. Heading F2B. A resilient sealing ring for a shaft etc., comprises a spring-loaded lip portion 12 disposed between and integral with a pair of metal reinforced support portions 10, 16, one, 16, of of which has means, e.g. holes 19, permitting access of sealed fluid to the space defined by the support portions and the lip portion. The sealing ring is of rubber or synthetic rubber, the support portions 10 and 16 being reinforced by steel rings 11 and 17 respectively and the lip portion 12 having a sealing edge 14 urged inwardly by a garter spring 15. The support portions are axially spaced by a distance ring 20.
