Abstract

1308833 End face seals CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 14 Aug 1970 39330/70 Heading F2B Sealing means 10 between two relatively rotatable parts, e.g. a rotatable wheel 22 and a spindle 24, comprises a pair of seal rings 40, 42 each having radially inwardly facing inclined surfaces 44, 46, a pair of retaining rings 32, 34 each associated with one of the parts 24, 22 and having a radially outwardly facing surface 36, 38 confronting an inclined surface 44, 46 of one of the rings 40, 42 and a resilient ring 50, 52 compressed between each pair of inclined surfaces to urge the rings 40, 42 radially outwardly and axially into facial sealing contact with each other. The retainer rings 32 and 34 are sealed to the spindle 24 and wheel 22 by 0-rings 55 and 56 respectively.
