Abstract

1,250,229. Rotary engines; reciprocating pumps; compressors. M. HOTTELET. May 9, 1969 [May 17, 1968], No. 23839/69. Headings F1A, FIB and F1N. A rotary device comprises a stator, a rotor mounting two opposed pistons 8, 8<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1 and having an annular groove on its outer surface into which extends an ovoid or elliptical cam profile 10 provided on the stator, guide rollers 9, 9<SP>1</SP> on each piston engageable with the cam profile to move the pistons radially inwardly of the rotor and fluid inlet and outlet means which are communicable sequentially with the space between the pistons during rotation of the rotor. During operation gas in an annular chamber 13 is drawn into the outer parts of the cylinder through ports 15 and when the pistons are moving outwardly is expelled via passages 14 and ports 12 into the combustion chamber 7. After ignition by sparking plug 11 the exhaust gases escape through ports 16, 16<SP>1</SP>. At starting rollers 18, 18<SP>1</SP> bearing on a cam surface cause the pistons to reciprocate. The rotor has cooling fins (not shown) which are shaped to assist the induction of the charge. The engine can be two or four stroke. An ignition controlling switch can be mounted on the shaft 5. In another embodiment an inner chamber (30), Fig. 9 (not shown) is a first suction and exhaust chamber fed and exhausted respectively through non-return valves (31, 32) and the outer peripheral portion of the rotor constitutes a second suction and exhaust chamber fed and exhausted respectively through non-return valves (33, 34).
