Abstract

1,248,695. Injection moulding machines. XALOY Inc. 6 May, 1969, No. 22983/69. Heading B5A. An injection moulding cylinder 10 has a liner 22 and means for equalizing the pressure inside and outside the liner so as to prevent damage thereto when operating at pressures up to 50,000 p.s.i. The liner comprises an abrasion resistant coating on a cylinder 20 which is surrounded by an annular chamber 39 and outer casing 30. In Fig. 1 (not shown) the annular chamber is pressurized from the same source (60) as supplies a cylinder (57) for moving an injection screw longitudinally. In Fig. 2 a pressure sensor rod 82 senses the pressure in the bore of the injection nozzle 45 and controls a valve 71 in a conduit 77 connected to a pressure source 61. A pressure control device 80 is connected to the conduit 77 and to the annular chamber 39. The device 80 comprises a cylinder 83 containing a piston 84 joined to a piston 85 in a cylinder 86. The device 80 serves to isolate the fluid pressure source from the expensive fluid, which may be liquid potassium, in the chamber 39.
