[Also in Divisions H3-H5] Microwave heating apparatus for the heating or hardening of rod-shaped, strip-shaped or band-shaped deformable plastics materials or resins 5 includes a waveguide 1, short-circuited at one end 6 and with coupling means 3 at the opposite end for supplying energy from a microwave generator 4 into the waveguide, the waveguide 1 being made of a solid dielectric non- metallic material and containing a channel 2 for shaping and dimensioning the dielectric material 5 to be heated, which is continuously conveyed axially through the waveguide 1 in the direction of energy flux, a shield 7 preventing radiation loss from the waveguide. The length of the waveguide 1 is so chosen that energy reflected at the short-circuited end 6 is sufficiently attenuated by further heating of the material 5 to prevent the generator 4 from being damaged. Various channel cross-sections are described, Fig. 2 (not shown).
