Abstract
1,248,461. Grooving extruded tubes. T. F. MOSS. 29 July, 1969 [4 June, 1968], No. 26538/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F2] A high-pressure hose comprises a tube of plastics material reinforced with a layer of helically-wound fibres retained in a helical groove on the outer surface of the tube, a second helical groove being cut inclined at an angle to the first, to provide some anchoring for a second layer of fibres, wound over and inclined to the first layer. The plastics tube may be produced by extrusion, and the grooves formed by moving dies whilst the tube is still hot. The layer or layers of fibres, which may be of natural or synthetic material, single or multi-filament, and metallic or nonmetallic, are preferably covered with another layer of plastics material, which may be applied by extrusion. The use of metal reinforcing filaments produces an antistatic hose. In another embodiment, p.t.f.e. filaments are used to reinforce a p.t.f.e. tube.
