Abstract
1,146,523. Compound tube. MANNESMANN A.G. 4 May, 1966 [4 May, 1965], No. 19630/66. Heading F2P. A compound tube comprises a steel tube 1 covered by an outer layer 2 of powdered plastics material 0À1 to 0À5 mm. thickness sintered on to the tube and an extruded plastics material 3 thereon. The plastics material may be polyethylene and the layer 3 may be cylindrical or, as shown, formed by winding on to the rotating tube a polyethylene strip produced in an extruder, the temperature of the sintered layer effecting welding, and pressing by pressure rolls to smooth out the winding junctions. Further layers of extruded strip are then applied, with the optional use of adhesives.
