A fastening element comprises a nut 3 with a skirt 14 extending from a clamping face 4 and a washer rotatably carried on the skirt and retained by an outward lip 15 on the skirt, the washer consisting of radially inner and outer flat annular parts 10, 11 and a conical intermediate part 12, the bore of the washer having cylindrical portions 7, 6 with an annular inwardly extending bead 8 between, the diameter of the portion 7 adjacent the clamping face of the nut being less than that of the other cylindrical portion 6.
