Abstract

1,247,792. Regulating I.C. engines; cooling cylinders. MOSA S.R.L. Jan.24, 1969 [Jan.27, 1968], No.4120/69. Heading F1B. [Also in Divisions G3 and H2] A portable electricity generating set for supplying arc welding or like intermittently operable apparatus, comprises an I.C. engine M and an A.C. generator A and the throttle valve of the carburetter 20 is controlled by speed governor, biased by a spring 44 providing an adjustable loading, to maintain the engine at a predetermined speed when generating set is subject to a load. A solenoid 50 having a core 51 is arranged to relieve the bias of the spring 44 on the governor when the generating set is not subject to a load so that the governor acts to maintain the engine at idling speed, e.g. 3000 r.p.m. The governor may be a vane 42, Fig.4, arranged in the outlet duct 23, 24 from a pair of coaxial fans 14 and 15 mounted on the engine and generator shaft 17 and drawing cooling air through a passage 26 defined in an outer casing 27 and passages 28, 29 and 30 around the shaft bearing and in generator rotor and stator. A centrifugal governor 100...104, Fig.7, may be driven by the engine crank. The generator A has a power factor correction condenser 34 and conductors 62, Fig.8, connected to either side of the condenser, lead to a switching and time delay circuit D for the solenoid 50. Power for the solenoid is provided by a flywheel magneto G, Fig.8, mounted in the space 16, Fig. 4, between the fans 14 and 15. A magneto coil 63 provides power for the spark-plug 67 and a coil 64 is connected is the solenoid circuit 73 through the circuit D and to an excitation circuit 69, 70, 71 for the generator A. A fuel tank (33), Fig.3 (not shown), is located within the casing of the set. For Figures see next page.
