Abstract
1,245,745. Boots &c. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 21 Nov., 1968 [22 Nov., 1967; 21 June, 1968], Nos. 53039/67 and 29603/68. Heading A3B. A shoe having an outflanged upper U has a moulded sole which covers the edge of the upper U (Fig. 4) and lies flush with the upper surface of the flange. The shoe is made by placing an extensible insole I on a foot form L using pins 30 on the form L to hold the insole I, placing a pre-formed upper U over the form L, joining the outflanged margin of the upper U to the insole I by stitching S, placing the assembled upper, insole and form 20 in a mould 2 of the type described in Specification 1,242,216, and moulding an outsole onto the shoe bottom by injecting molten p.v.c. into the cavity. The mould 2 has a sole mould 4 having a recess 6 which has a peripheral outline slightly larger than the outline of the insole. The mould 2 also includes side members 14 carrying welt plates 16 which form a seal between the upper surface of the outflanged margin of the upper U and the surface 10 of the sole mould. In a modification (not shown) the welt plates 16 have a coating of silicone rubber to improve the seal.
