Abstract
1,244,889. Non-woven fabric. SOC. RHODIACETA. 1 April, 1969 [2 April, 1968], No. 17122/69. Headings D1F, D1N and D1R. A non-woven fibrous web is prepared by feeding a tow 1, and/or discontinuous fibres of, e.g. polyamide, polyolefine, polyester, acrylic or vinylic compounds by means of rollers 6 and 7 which rotate at different peripheral velocities after spreading of the tow is effected by curved bars 3 and tensioning bar 4, to a continuously advancing conveyor belt 8 substantially without tension. A doctor 9 spaced from belt 8 is periodically displaced in the same direction and at a higher velocity than belt 8 so as to exert pressure on the entire width of the tow and to subject the tow to local friction thereby forming a web. The velocity of doctor 9 and its spacing from belt 8 is adjustable. The web then passes onto a conveyor belt 11, through chamber 12 where it is sprayed with a crosslinkable resin bonding agent, e.g. an acrylic resin and heating chamber 13 where the bonding agent is cured. The web may subsequently be subjected to calendering and/or needling. In another embodiment Fig. 3 (not shown) a plurality of doctors 31 are mounted to extend radially on a spindle 32 which rotates at constant speed.
