Abstract

1,244,253. Dispersion hardening alloys. DEUTSCHE GOLD-UNDSILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT Jan.20, 1969 [Jan. 20, 1968; Sept.27, 1968], No.3058/69. Headings C7A and C7D. A material consisting of one or more Pt metals and one or more elements having an affinity for oxygen is dispersion hardened by internal oxidation by heating at 800‹ -1, 200‹ C. in a free-oxygen containing atmosphere (e.g. air) for at least 5 hours. If the material is first age-hardened at 300‹ -800‹ C. (e.g. in air), oxidation may be effected at 800‹ -1,400‹ C. The starting material may be in the form of powder (which is then pressed and sintered after oxidation), sheet or wire. Reference is particularly made to starting alloys consisting of Pt-Zr 0À1-5, Pt-Rh 10-Zr1, and Pt-Pd 9À5-Zr1. Other materials mentioned are Pd and alloys thereof, and the incorporation as oxidizable elements of Al, Be, Ti, Hf, Ta and Th.
