Abstract
1,243,648. Subaqueous structures; wells &c. MOBIL OIL CORP. 9 Aug., 1968 [28 Aug., 1967], No. 38221/68. Headings E1F and E1H. [Also in Division F2] A subaqueous structure comprises a foundation (e.g. a well head) 50 having at least one upwardly extending sleeve 62 engageable with at least one depending column 90, 92 on a body 10' lowerable onto the foundation which can control the pressure of fluid in the sleeves (e.g. by bleeding through a valve 76) as the sleeves and columns telescope together. The sleeves 62 and columns 90, 92 are used to locate the body on the foundation and may incorporate latches (see Division F2) to hold the columns and sleeves together. The foundation 50 may comprise a ring of well heads 14 from which the extracted mineral (e.g. oil) is taken via lines 18 and a common vertical line 26 to a floating tank 20 incorporating a platform 22 and an off-loading boom 24. The foundation may also comprise a series of upstanding tubes 88 having corresponding mating parts 86 on the body 10' with which can be made a fluidtight joint. The body 10' may be lowerable from a ship 28 from which come an air line 104 and an electric supply line 106, these lines being used to drive a motor 94 to orientate the body and to control its buoyancy. The connection of the body 10' to the foundation 50 may be facilitated by a submarine service vehicle 30 having a hatch 42 through which a diver can pass.
