Abstract

1,243,424. Cleaning aluminium. PYRENE CO Ltd. Feb. 10, 1970 [Feb. 17, 1969], No. 8489/69. Heading C7E. Aluminium alloy surfaces are cleaned by spraying with an aqueous solution of a mixture of mineral acids and a non-ionic stable surfactant at ambient temperature, the mineral acids in the solution being H3PO 4 in an amount of 1 to 30 wt%, HNO 3 , 0À15 to 15 wt%, the ratio HNO 3 : H 3 PO 4 being 0À02 to 0À6:1, and the surfactant amounting to 0À05 to 20% by weight of the solution. The surfactant may be a nonyl phenol-ethylene oxide condensate, and an inhibitor for the attack of acid on iron or steel such as di-n-butyl thiourea may be added to the solution, as may also a dye. A concentrate containing 10- 40% H 3 PO 4 dilutable to give the spray composition, and said composition itself, are described and claimed.
