Abstract

1,242,195. Towing equipment. H. M. LEEMING. 20 Feb., 1970 [19 May, 1969], No. 8362/70. Heading B7V. Apparatus mounted on the stern 16 of a tug for controlling transverse and vertical movements of the tow line 15 comprises vertical rams 52, 36 and 60 hydraulically movable between extended and retracted positions, and a member 70 formed with a longitudinal slot and operated hydraulically to swing upwards to engage the tow line in its slot. A horizontal roller 33 guides the tow line. Rams 52, 36 and 60 and member 70 are operable independently, and are remote-controlled from the bridge of the tug, Figs. 1 and 6 (not shown). The tow line-engaging surfaces of the rams comprise rotatable sleeves. For two tow lines, another ram may be provided next to ram 60, together with another member 70. In a simplified arrangement, rams 52 and 60 are omitted.
