Abstract

1,239,831. Cam mechanisms. C.A.V. Ltd. 17 Jan., 1969 [7 Feb., 1968], No. 5993/68. Heading F2K. In a mechanism comprising a cam 10 mounted on a rotary shaft 9, a follower roller 15 rotatably mounted on a channel-shaped tappet 17 and a plunger 18 contacting the tappet 17 and being guided for movement in a plane substantially at right-angles to the shaft axis, the axis of rotation of the roller 15 is permitted angular movement in a plane containing the axis of rotation of the cam 10. The roller 15 is rotatably mounted on a pin 16 which is mounted in the tappet 17, and the ends of pin 16 are slidably accommodated in grooves 20 formed in an annular member 21 which is pivotally mounted in a body 19 about an axis located at rightangles to that of shaft 9. In a modification, the roller comprises an outer portion 14 mounted on a part-spherical surface 13, Fig. 3. In a further modification, an intermediate member 14a, Fig. 4, is located between a part-spherical member 13 and a cylindrical member 14.
