Abstract

1,237,568. Removing H 2 from Cl 2 . SOLVAY ET CIE. 16 July, 1968 [19 July, 1967], No. 33852/68. Heading C1A. H 2 is removed from Cl 2 by passing the gas' through active carbon granules maintained at 125-250‹ C., at least part of the heat liberated by the reaction of the H 2 with Cl 2 being used to preheat the gas by means of a heat transfer fluid. Preferably the gas to be treated is passed through a bed of carbon granules disposed below the reaction zone, and oil is circulated in vertical tubes between the two zones. The Cl 2 may be obtained by electrolysis in a mercury cell.
