Abstract

1,236,821. Knitting-machines. K. I. J. ROSEN, 12 June, 1968 [20 Oct., 1967], No. 28019/68. Heading D1C. A yarn feeding device for a knitting machine comprises a store 11 on which the yarn may be wound and from which it can be fed intermittently, and means enabling the yarn to be positively fed. In the embodiment shown the store is stationary and mounted on a rotatable shaft 2 through which the yarn 5 is fed to emerge through tube 4. A disc 18 having arms 45 projecting through slots 48 in the store is mounted on a bearing 19 pivoted on the shaft. The disc normally assumes an inclined position and forces a coupling 24 into engagement with teeth on the underside of a drive pulley 6 so that shaft 2 and arm 4 can rotate. The rotating arm 4 winds yarn which is pushed down by the oscillating arms 45 when the build-up of yarn forces the disc to a horizontal attitude the coupling is disengaged. When the yarn is to be fed positively shaft 27 is depressed and raises arm 29 so that the yarn turns are swept off at the same rate as turns are being built up. In an alternative embodiment the store is rotated and thereby entrains yarn, which is fed from a fixed guide. In the embodiment of Fig. 6 (not shown) the build up of yarn obscures a slot (240) through which air is blown to operate the arm of a micro-switch. In a still furhter embodiment a disc having sloping teeth projecting through the drive is forced upwards by the turns until it engages a microswitch which stops the winding.
