Abstract

1,233,847. Heat-treating stainless steels. ALLEGHENY LUDLUM STEEL CORP. May 12, 1969 [June 28, 1968], No.24169/69. Headings C7A and C7N. Martensitic and metastable austenitic steels in sheet and strip form are heat-treated, including cooling, in an atmosphere of hydrogen with one or more of argon, helium or nitrogen, the hydrogen forming not more than 50% of the mixture. Preferably the dew-point of the atmosphere is not above -20‹ F. As exemplified the following steels were annealed at 2025‹ F. for 70 seconds.
