Abstract

A bowl-shaped tyre holder 11 with a radial interruption, Fig. 2 (not shown), which brings tyre blanks 55 from a tyre blank tensioning drum 3 outside a tyre vulcanizing mould to a position between mould halves 9, 10 has centering stops 38 circumferentially spaced by 120 degrees which engage with a tyre rim ring 57 forming part of a heating bag mechanism. The stops are radially adjustable on the base of the holder and may be faced with polyethylene. The drum 3 is composed of segments connected by links to a rod 33 attached to the piston-rod of a pneumatic cylinder 35. When a tyre blank is located on its holder around the drum, the latter is expanded by the cylinder 35 to stretch the blank and the holder is lowered; on raising the holder it is coaxially aligned with the drum by the stops engaging correspondingly located units 52 on the expanded drum. The tyre blank is then raised by the holder and swivelled to a position between the mould halves. The raising and swivelling mechanism includes a pneumatic piston and cylinder 15, 16 which reciprocates a sleeve 14 to which the holder is secured and a pneumatic piston and cylinder 24, 25 which rotates the sleeve about a spindle surrounded by a sleeve 20.
