Abstract
1,228,800. Smoke detectors. HONEYWELL Inc. Aug. 1, 1968 [Aug. 2, 1967], No.36835/68. Heading G1N. [Also in Division H1] In an ionization chamber for detecting products of combustion, a source 11 of particles, e.g. Ni<SP>63</SP> or tritium, is coated on one electrode 10, the other electrode 12 being spaced therefrom by a distance less than the maximum range of the higher energy # particles and greater than 3/2 times the half thickness range of the # particles emitted from the source. The rod electrode 10 may be the anode or the cathode and the cup shaped electrode 12 is surrounded by a grounded shield 16, slots 16a, 12a being provided to allow access into the interelectrode space for the products of combustion. Solid state circuit components (not shown) may be mounted on an insulating board 13 housed in space 20.
