Abstract

1,227,036. Electro-plating elongated members. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Feb.26, 1969, No.10259/69. Heading C7B. In a method of electro-plating a batch of elongated members each over a region adjacent one end while they are immersed in the electrolyte, e.g. of plating the ends of magnetic reed contact blades with gold, the elongated members are positioned in a container having insulating walls and an opening through which the ends to be plated project, the remaining parts thereof being screened by the insulating walls of the container. In the form shown six cylindrical containers 6 are supported by frame 5 about a tubular member 11. Each container 6 is provided with a disc-shaped cathode 8 in the base thereof and a loop-shaped cathode 10 about the neck of the container, all being connected via leads 12 to the cathode terminal 13. The cathodes may be of copper and the disc-shaped cathodes may be gold plated. An annular anode 16 is positioned about the group of containers. Agitation may be provided by orbital rotation of the structure comprising the containers 6 and support member 11.
