Abstract

1,225,632. Feeding sheets. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 9 May, 1968 [15 June, 1967], No. 21952/68. Heading B8R. Sheets are fed from the bottom of a stack in a hopper 18 by means of two reciprocating vacuum feed heads 10 controlled by cams so that the bottom sheet is held against a highfriction surface 12 of the head by vacuum acting through said surface before and during the feed stroke, vacuum being released on the return stroke. A reciprocating high-friction member 82 assists separation by engaging the trailing end of the sheet. The side of the stack is raised by a lifter member 84 before the return stroke. Each sheet is passed to feed rollers 56 intermittently engaged by pressure rollers 58. The high-friction surface 12 may be vitreously bonded abrasive or polyurethane rubber, the former being porous and the latter perforated. The hopper 18 may be disposed at 60 degrees to the vertical.
