Abstract

1,220,533. Armoured vehicles. CONTRAVES A.G. 21 March, 1969 [3 April, 1968], No. 14927/69. Heading F3C. An armoured vehicle is provided with an unlimitedly rotatable turret 2 on which are mounted a pair of anti-aircraft guns, a scanning radar appliance and a target-tracking radar appliance 5, at least one optical periscope 6 passing through the roof of the turret 2. Within the turret 2 are provided seats 8 for the crew, desks 7 with radar screens positioned beneath the or each periscope 6, a ballistic computer 90 for automatic computation of the ballistic elements for each gun in dependence on the target locating data continuously ascertained by the target-tracking radar appliance, manually operable periscope control means, and an ammunition store 42 for the or each gun. In the construction shown the guns are journalled one on each side of the turret 2, the guns being belt fed with ammunition from the stores 42 through supply ducts part of each of which is rigid with the gun and the other part of each of which is rigid with the ammunition store (Fig. 5, not shown). The guns are rigid with the turret for training but are elevatable independently thereof. The field of view of the periscopes 6 is also adjustable in elevation (Fig. 4, not shown) and azimuth independently of the turret. Readings of target position may be derived from the periscopes, the readings to be used in case of failure of the radar appliancies. The scanning radar appliance is mounted in a bulge 23 at the rear of the turret, the aerial 3 thereof being movable between erected and protected positions by an hydraulic device 31. The target-tracking radar appliance is provided with an armoured casing, the aerial dish 50 of the appliance being rotatable between an operative position, as shown, to a protected position between the armoured casing and the wall of the turret.
