Abstract

1,220,072. Moulding foamed articles. BAXENDEN CHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 5 Aug., 1968 [3 May, 1967], No. 20613/67. Heading B5A. A process for the production of shaped foamed articles comprises introducing a curable foam forming composition into the two parts of a two-part mould while they are horizontal, allowing the composition to foam and partially cure until it is self-supporting, closing the mould so that the foam surfaces contact or face each other and continuing the curing and foaming in the closed mould. The mould preferably comprises two rectangular halves hinged together, the two halves having the same or different volumes and the two halves are preferably brought together with the junction plane vertical. The rise due to forming may be between 5 and 99% (preferably 85-90%) of the total free rise when the mould is closed and the foamed article may be post cured at elevated temperature before or after removal from the mould. The foaming material is preferably polyurethane or a natural or synthetic rubber.
