Abstract

1,218,457. Spring-loaded hinge with friction braking device. FRANZ HETTICH K.G. 9 Sept., 1968 [25 Oct., 1967], No. 42759/68. Headings E2F and E2M. A spring-loaded hinge for articulating a leaf 6 to an article 5 comprises a hinge casing 1 containing compression springs 2, 3 and a hinge flap 4 articulated to the hinge casing and acted on by the springs. Pivoting movement of the hinge flap 4 is damped by a friction brake device comprising a brake block 7 which moves to and fro in the hinge casing 1 as the hinge flap 4 rotates. Preferably the brake device is double acting and the brake block is C-shaped. The outer surfaces of the arms 7a, 7b of the C press on the side walls 1a, 1b of the hinge casing to provide frictional damping. Additional braking is provided by a brake shoe 8 which bears on the inside of the C of the brake block.
