In one arrangement, Fig. 1, the head set 1 has two hinges 4 on which are U-shaped wire members 5 carrying the earphones, the members 5 being adjustable in position in the hinges so that the earpieces 7 can be arranged to suit an individual wearer. A modification of the Fig. 1 apparatus has side portions 2 which are at right angles to the part 1, Fig. 2, instead of being inclined. Here the headpiece is shown in its collapsed position. In a second arrangement, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), a shallow channel section member (1) forms the headband and wire side member(s) (5) on which are slidably mounted the earpieces (7), are accommodated within the channel of member 1 when the headpiece is collapsed. The cable connected to the headpiece, may in the Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 arrangements be wound round disc portions on the back spaces of the earpieces when the device is collapsed. In further arrangements the headpiece is formed externally with channel sections on which the cable can be wound when the apparatus is collapsed, Figs. 6, 7 and 8 (not shown). The arrangement of Fig. 6 has solid sides, in which are slots to allow adjustment of the positions of the earpieces. A lightweight arrangement, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), has a single or two-part headset which is slightly curved. The Fig. 9 arrangement has end hinges to which are attached stiff wire arms carrying the earpieces which are slidable or rotatable thereon. The earpieces are rotated before collapsing the device. The Fig. 10 arrangement has extension pieces at each end of the headband and carrying the stiff wire arms, the cable being wound round these pieces when the device is collapsed. A hinged headpiece is illustrated in Fig. 12 (not shown) in its collapsed position. The headset 1 may accommodate an electrical device such as a radio receiver and a changeover switch between this and the telephone cable is then provided. The device is switched off when the apparatus is collapsed. A device may also be worn under the chin or on the nape of the neck.
