Abstract
1,217,650. Tundishes. JONES & LAUGHLIN STEEL CORP. 15 Dec., 1969, No. 60985/69. Heading F4B. A tundish 1 with a gastight roof 2 comprises six pouring nozzles 10 disposed along the length of the tundish and above each nozzle a burner 24 is disposed in a burner block 20 formed with an opening 21 with a throat 32 and a diverging portion 33 encouraging the formation of a short diverging flame covering a wide area. A gas main 27 and air main 29 supply each burner through valve-controlled branch pipes 26 and 28. Mating flanges 17 and 18 are formed on the roof and tundish and ears 19, 19<SP>1</SP> on said flanges have fastening bolts. A side spout 8 receives molten metal from a ladle and an overflow runner is provided at the top of one end wall.
