Abstract

1379179 Ladle stoppers BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 13 April 1973 [17 April 1972] 17624/72 Heading F4B A ladle stopper 4 seating on a surface 6 surrounding the inlet to a nozzle 1 is operated by a stopper rod 5 extending through the nozzle, the outflow passage of the nozzle being shaped so that the outlet 21 is offset from the inlet and the axis of the stopper rod. The rod 5 may slide within a sleeve 8 extending through the nozzle passage, the stopper head 4 moving relative to the sleeve, or the refractory sleeve may move with the stopper rod andhead (Fig. 2, not shown). The ladle nozzle 1 may be formed with several passages 33 leading to outlets 21 spaced round the opening 24 for the passage of the stopper rod, Fig. 3. Gas for cooling or to prevent ingress of metal into the stopper head may be supplied through a passage in the stopper rod.
