Abstract

1,217,151. Two-stroke I.C. engines. MERCER ENG. CO. (BRADFORD) Ltd. Jan.15, 1968 [Jan.20, 1967], No.3118/67. Heading F1B. In a rotary I.C. engine having at least a pair of axially aligned cylinders and respective pistons 18 and 20, combustible mixture is drawn into the outer ends of the cylinders during inward movement of the pistons and transferred to the inner ends of the cylinders during outwards movement of the pistons through transfer passages 1 and 2 in the cylinder walls. Cam followers 26, 28, 30, 32 connected to the pistons co-operate with cam tracks 22, 24 having cam surfaces defined by two intersecting circles with inward projections at the intersections, Figs.2 to 4 (not shown). Further cam tracks may be provided inwardly of the tracks 22, 24 and spaced therefrom a distance slightly greater than the follower diameter for operation of the pistons at starting. The pistons 18 and 20 control transfer ports 54, 56, 58, an exhaust port 60 and inlet ports 84 and 86.
