Abstract

1,215,517. Inking apparatus. SOC. DE ETUDES ET DE VENTE DE MATERIALS POUR LA FABRICATION ET LE FACCONAGE DU CARTON ONDULE-MARTIN. 20 May, 1968 [25 May, 1967], No. 24010/68. Heading B6C. Ink-supplying roller 1 and printing cylinder 3 are linked by chain 15, so that they revolve at a fixed speed ratio, and messenger roller 4 is brought alternately into contact with inksupplying roller 1 and the first roller 5 of a train of ink-distributing rollers 2, by which cylinder 3 is inked, under control of two sets of timing apparatus t and T. The messenger roller 4 may be moved by an hydraulic jack 8 fed by pump 9 through distributing valves 10, the flow of hydraulic fluid to jack 8 being reversible by valves 10 on receipt of a signal from either set of timing apparatus. The sets of timing apparatus may operate in turn to measure time and control the alternate contacts of messenger roller 4 with ink-supplying roller 1 and roller 5, each reversing jack 8 and starting the other at the end of a preset period. Alternatively the longer duration set of timing apparatus may start the other and reset itself periodically, so that they operate together until the shorter duration apparatus stops. The timing apparatus may operate by pulse-counting, or be pneumatic or mechanical, and the messenger roller may be moved mechanically, pneumatically or electrically as well as hydraulically.
