Abstract

1,057,456. Intaglio printing apparatus. COLODENZE Ltd. Aug. 24, 1965 [Aug. 27. 1964], No. 36075/84 Heading B6C. A multi-colour gravure printing apparatus for applying ink impressions to a travelling web 1 of a flexible material comprises a continuous flexible inextensible belt 2 caused, in one run, to follow an arc-shaped path for supporting the web on the convex surface of the belt. Four positively driven gravure printing cylinders 7 with associated impression rollers 10 and inking and doctoring-means 8, 9 are placed at spaced intervals adjacent the belt as it describes the arc-shaped path whilst hot air drying means 11 are placed between the cylinders. The drive to the belt is effected by the positive drive of the cylinders whilst the belt is tensioned by a movable guide roller 19. The belt is urged to follow the arc-shaped path by air jets issuing from air boxes 13, 14, 15. If desired the impression rollers may be dispensed with, the air jets serving to press the web against the gravure cylinders. Each hot air drying means incorporates air coolers 11<SP>1</SP>. An infra red heater 12 is used to dry the printed web 9 before it is wound into a storage roll. In a modified apparatus the belt 2 is driven by independent driving rollers.
