Abstract
1,214,944. Regulating I.C. engines; fuelinjection pumps. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. June 21, 1968, No.29735/68. Headings F1A and F1B. In an I. C. engine, a fuel injection pump piston 6 is driven by a radial cam 13, and a rotary fuel distributer 5 is driven by a spur gear 11 via spur gear 9. The gear 11 and the cam 13 are mounted via a common hub 12 on an overhung end portion 10<SP>1</SP> of an engine shaft, e.g. on the cam-shaft 10 or, in the case of two or four stroke engines with uniform ignition spacing, on the crank-shaft. Moreover, a gear-wheel 14 on the free end of the cam-shaft houses a centrifugal injection timing adjuster which angularly adjusts the member 11, 12, 13 relative to the cam-shaft in dependence on engine speed. The rotary distributer 5 may also function as the drive-shaft for an injection pump governor 19 and/ or the fuel supply pump 20. The cam 13 may also drive the piston of a smaller injection pump for preinjection or ignition injection, the smaller injection pump delivering into the delivery pipe of the main injection pump. In an I.C. engine of the V-type, the cam may co-operate with two pump pistons angularly spaced around the cam axis.
