Abstract
1,214,798. Inflatable tents. H. A: ADAM. 24 July, 1969, No. 37369/69. Heading E1A. [Also in Division A6] An inflatable structure e.g. a tent, comprises Fig. 2, two tubular inflatable side walls 66 and a canopy 44 comprising inflatable tubes 72 spaced apart by channels 74 and connected for inflation to tubes 66. The longitudinal edges of canopy 44 are connected, Fig. 8, to spring loaded turnbuckles 70 attached to roller members 50 which run in tracks 54. The cover is stored in trench 12, on rails 46, Fig. 5, and is gripped, when rams 30 lower top 18, between rollers 24 and 38. To advance the cover over the ground the lugs 56 and 60, Fig. 6, of motor driven chains 58 and 62, situated at either end of the trench, successively engage roller members 50, joined by individual cables 52, and propel them along tracks 54. The advancing cover is inflated, to the nip of rolls 24 and 38, via air tube 68, and becomes rigid, whereby the force applied by chain drive 62 is transmitted to the forward edge of the canopy, roller members 50 continuing to travel along tracks 54. The forward edge of the canopy is enclosed to fixed anchor points. Tubes 72 have vents under the canopy to allow air, possibly heated, to circulate to dry the ground beneath the cover.
