Abstract
1,213,924. Electromagnetic relays; operating electromagnets. OMRON TATEISI ELECTRONICS CO. 22 April, 1969 [25 April, 1968], No. 20550/69. Headings H1N and H1P. [Also in Division H3] An operating electromagnet has a magnetically responsive switching device located to receive flux from the electromagnet when there is a gap between the armature and core of the electromagnet. As shown in Fig. 2 the magnetically responsive switching device is a sealed magnetic reed contact device 118. The relay may have two coils 71, 72 (Fig. 3) arranged so that the flux produced in the air gap 19 on initial energization of coil 71 is sufficient to close the reed contacts to energize coil 72 so that the relay armature 1 is attracted to the core 6 and close the air gap 19. The contacts 118 reopen but the flux due to coil 71 is sufficient to hold the armature 1 attracted. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 4) the reed contact device 118 switches out a resistor 24 until the gap 19 is closed. The contact device may bridge the air gap of a relay having E-shaped core and armature and be mounted in the coil former or casing thereof. A magnetically responsive semi-conductor may replace the reed contact device.
